Q: What variations of G24 lamps are there? A: There are two main types of G24 series – G24d and G24q. The G24d series have two pins which are 24mm apart and work with magnetic ballasts.
The G24q series have four pins and work with electronic ballast. The G24d-1 has a nib in the centre, and is usually 13W or lower. The G24d-2 has a nib to the left, and is usually 18W. The G24d-3 has a nib to the right, and is usually 26W. See drawing.

Q: Can the G24 LED lamp replace G24 lamp? A: Yes, the G24 LED lamp can replace the G24 compact fluorescent lamp. The G24 LED lamp's lamp base does not have a nib. Hence it can fit into sockets meant for G24d-1, G24d-2 and G24d-3, and G24q-1, G24q-2 and G24q-3. The G24 LED lamp can operate with direct AC connections. It can also operate with magnetic ballast. But it cannot operate with electronic ballast. Hence for the G24q series, the electronic ballast needs to be by-passed or removed. Q: How do I choose which type of G24 LED lamps to use? A: There are two main types of G24 LED lamps – directional and all-round illuminations. If the lamp is required to provide light in all directions, then the corn-cob G24 LED lamp is most suitable. If the lamp is required to light up only in one direction, such when the lamp is installed on the ceiling and is required to light up the floor, then a directional G24 LED lamp is most suitable.
After that, based on the brightness required, an appropriate power of the LED lamp can be selected. For example, a 6W G24 LED lamp can replace a 18W G24 compact fluorescent lamp.
